DUO HQ is located in the Town of Frome; it’s the 4th biggest town in Somerset. With Frome Festival, the ‘Cheese Show’ (sounds odd but trust us it’s a big deal around here), the picturesque Catherine Hill and numerous curiosity shops, galleries, cafés and vintage emporiums, it’s a real joy to work somewhere so unique and interesting (a bit like DUO really). Yet with all this it’s still small enough to find parking costing less than 50p an hour.

Here at DUO we really like to get involved in our local community and have done so in various ways over the years including: judging fashion competitions at the local college, running races and triathlons, giving boots to fashion shows and Captain Hook got a particularly fetching pair of over the knees for the local panto. Frome is pretty cool in our book.

Claire Alexander
HR & Talent Development Manager

Q: Whats your role about?
I'm responsible for providing HR support and guidance for the business, which includes tackling everything from day to day queries on contracts and keeping our policies and employee handbook up to date, to mapping out the strategic direction of HR in order to support the company's growth plans for the next five years. I also design and deliver in-house bespoke training solutions ranging from personal development courses on topics like time management and assertiveness, to company-wide initiatives like the manager development programme.

Q: What did you do before you joined DUO?
I worked for Virgin Media for nine years and prior to that NatWest Bank for five years, specialising in training and development and business partnering roles. After my daughter was born and before joining DUO, I also spent some time working for a company specialising in manager development training called gofastforward, based in Edinburgh.

Q: What inspires you to come into work every day?
I love the variety and challenge of always having new things to focus on, continuously broadening my own knowledge and skills and really feeling that what I do makes a difference to people and has an impact on the organisation as a whole.

Q: What did you do before you started at DUO?
I moved to England from France 16 years ago, working as a French teacher and Head of Languages in a secondary school. I am now 40 and wanted a new challenge. I have always had an interest in fashion and retail and DUO is the perfect place for this new experience. I knew about DUO as I bought my first pair of DUO shoes in 2002 for my wedding.

Q: What do you like about the UK?
I love the Victorian architecture and cream teas!

Customer Service Advisors – based in Frome

Customer Service Team Manager - Part-Time Maternity Cover (6 months), based in Frome

You will manage the performance of a team of Customer Service Advisors and Senior Customer Service Advisors; coaching and motivating them to deliver remarkworthy service in all mediums.

You will provide a first class and unique experience, guiding our customers through our collection and finding their perfect DUO fit. You will have passion for our products and a desire to work in fashion and understand the current trends in the market. We’re strong advocates that how we operate behind the scenes reflects in the service and products we offer our customers. And if what happens backstage at your favourite fashion brand is as important to you, here’s a short selection of insights to the way we work.


We work in partnership with a small number of family-owned independent European factories. It’s rare in footwear to work this way, but our long-standing relationships bonded on trust, openness and continuous development remain key to delivering innovative and inspiring ranges season after season.

At least one member of the DUO team visits our factories every 6 weeks. Spending so much time with the artisans who carefully handcraft our shoes means we can be sure what ends up on your feet and legs comes with the hallmarks of DUO quality and care. We also collaborate with component and leather suppliers to unearth the most interesting textures, long-lasting componentry and on-trend colours available each season.

Taking this close an interest in the production of a DUO shoe or boot helps ensure each pair becomes a soundly manufactured investment piece that lasts.


For 3 years we’ve supported Winston’s Wish, a niche Cotswold-based charity that provides support to children and families of bereaved parents. Our fundraising has given over 20 children the chance to better cope with the loss of a mum or a dad, transforming their lives in both the short and long terms. We’re very proud of our achievements and the association we have with the Winston’s Wish team.

We’ve also recently begun to support Unseen UK, a Bristol-based charity established to challenge human trafficking at all levels. We support up to 45 women rescued by the charity each year in providing them with footwear for the next phase of their difficult lives.

And finally, as with all footwear and clothing retailers, we do end up with some stock we cannot sell (for example, where there are minor faults). When this happens, we donate it to In-Kind direct, a charity that then distributes stock for free to those who need it. The range of beneficiaries is extraordinary and it gives us a great sense of satisfaction to see each pair of DUO shoes going to a good home.


Where we feel we can positively support our communities in-store and at our Head office in Somerset we willingly lend our support. From providing footwear for fashion shows to lending advice to budding business-people to sharing experiences with creative minds, it’s important to us that our own talent impacts beyond our walls and takes the chance to offer something in return to local communities.
