HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR DUOS
Top 4 ways to ensure your DUO’s look their best for longer:
-
PROTECT
Use the recommended leather, suede or nubuck protection spray or cream before wearing and then at regular intervals. -
CHECK
Keep an eye on your DUO’s and where necessary have them maintained by a cobbler (replace heel tips and soles before they wear completely). -
NOURISH
DUO use natural leathers which need love and attention. Regularly use the recommended polish or cream to maintain depth of colour. -
REST
We know you love wearing your DUO’s, but natural leathers need time to breathe, so alternating your shoes, giving them a days rest helps keep your shoes and boots at their best.

Further tips to care for DUO boots and shoes:
- SUEDE – Use a suede brush to remove marks.
- PATENT LEATHER – Remove marks with a damp cloth then polish with a soft, dry cloth.
- ANTIQUED LEATHER – Styles hand-crafted in antiqued leather are designed to look aged and worn. Dark or light marks can usually be removed by gently rubbing the leather.
- FABRIC – Use a soft dry sponge to remove marks in gentle circular movements so not to destroy the pile. When using a fabric protector spray, follow instructions and test on a small area in case colours run. Fabric shoes or boots do not cope well with wet.
- HEEL TIPS – On narrow heels, change the heel tip in good time to avoid wear on the heel itself. We include replacement heel tips with some DUO styles. If you find you wear tips down quickly (some of us do just by the way we walk), consider replacing with metal tips. Your cobbler will hold a supply.
- TOE TIPS – Pointed styles can wear more quickly at the toe-piece. Toe tips should be replaced by a cobbler when they begin to look worn.
- WET WEATHER – Leather has pores to help it breathe, it is water resistant not waterproof. Regular polishing with a wax polish will help protect against water damage. Suede and nubuck should be sprayed with a good quality protective spray before you wear them, and again at regular intervals.
- HEAT AND DRYING – All leather products are susceptible to heat damage. Never dry your boots or shoes with direct heat or leave them in a hot environment.
- STORAGE – Leather footwear should be stored in soft cloth or tissue paper, not in plastic bags.
- BOOT TREES – All DUO boots are supplied with foam inners to maintain their shape in transit. Investing in a pair of DUO boot trees will further help to maintain the shape of your tailored boots.
- SHOE TREES – Will maintain the shape of your shoes when not being worn.
- SHOE HORNS – Using a shoe horn when putting your shoes on helps keep the heel guard from becoming damaged.
- ZIPPING UP BOOTS – Occasionally it is possible to trap the zip in the zip guard (the leather flap behind the zip). To prevent this, run your finger along the zip guard to make it flat each time you put your boots on.
- WEAR AND TEAR – Please do not be tempted to wear high heels when driving and take care when walking over rough ground or gratings.
