I am buying a pair of DUOs for the first time, is there anything I should bear in mind?
Narrow heels
- when buying a pair of boots or shoes with a narrow heel, the pressure exerted on the heel is significant and the heavier the wearer, the quicker the rubber ‘heel tip’ will wear out. If you plan to wear narrow heeled boots/shoes over extended periods of time, be aware that you will need to replace the heel tips regularly and before the tips wear completely.
Pointed styles - these boots or shoes can wear more quickly at the toe-piece. The tips should be replaced when they begin to look worn.
Ankles - expect your boots to wrinkle around the ankle over time. There needs to be space between your ankle and the boot to allow for freedom of movement. If they were made too tight in this area they would be unwearable.

How do I care for my boots?
Wet weather - leather has pores to help it breathe - it is water resistant not waterproof. It is advisable to use a waterproofing leather spray, especially with suede and light colours.
Heat and drying - all leather products are susceptible to heat damage. Never dry your boots/shoes with direct heat or leave them in a hot environment.
Polish – To keep your leather boots/shoes looking at their best, polish them regularly. Not only will this keep them shiny but it will also protect them against water and scuffing. If you cannot find an accurate match for coloured leather, use a clear polish or wax for protection. Click here to view our range of accessories.
Storage - leather footwear should be stored in soft cloth or tissue paper, please don't store them in plastic bags.

[Boots] Zipping up
– Very occasionally it is possible to trap the zip in the zip guard (the leather flap behind the zip). To help guard against this when zipping up your boots, run your finger along the zip guard to make it flat.
[Boots] Boot trees – All our boots are supplied with foam inners to maintain their shape in transit. However, investing in a pair of boot trees will help to store your boots straighter thereby keeping the shape of the leg for longer.
Shoe horns – can be used when putting your shoes on to keep the heel guard from becoming damaged.
Shoe trees – will maintain the shape of your shoes when not being worn.
Heel tips - On narrow width heels, change the heel tip in good time to avoid wear on the heel itself. We will be providing a spare set of heel tips with some styles this season but as they are considered disposable components you will be liable for the cobbler’s fees. If you find you have to replace the tips after just a few wears you could consider asking  for them to be replaced with metal tips. Your cobbler will hold a supply.
Wear and tear - Do not wear heels when driving and please take care when walking over rough ground or gratings. All shoes and boots benefit from being rested and not worn continually.

If my first pair is not quite right, how do I return them to you?
We work our socks off to get the right fitting pair of shoes or boots to you first time. If however we are not able to do this, or you would like to return your products for another reason other than fit you may do so. Please return your order to us at any time within ten (10) days of receipt, for a full refund on the cost of the products or an exchange. Products must be returned unworn and undamaged in their original packaging with the original purchase receipt.

How do I measure my calf?
Measuring your calves carefully and accurately helps us to get the right boots to you first time. Please give us your calf measurement to the nearest 1cm and we’ll carefully select the best fit for you in your chosen style. Some tips:

  • Use a fabric tape measure and measure to the nearest centimetre. (Top tip: a piece of string and a ruler will do just as well!)
  • Wrap the tape (or string, ribbon, phone charger, computer mouse cable etc etc) around the widest part of your calf, leaving no gap.
  • Measure both calves and use the wider measurement when placing your order.
  • If you regularly wear tights or long socks with boots, wear them when you measure.
  • If you plan to wear trousers tucked into your boots, please wear trousers when you measure your leg.
  • Most styles have a small elastic section at the top of the boot that allows at least 1cm stretch.
  • Our boots, like all leather products, will give slightly with time and wear. (Needless to say wading through rivers and drying them on hot radiators is really not recommended!)
  • If you prefer tightly fitting boots, and you are between sizes, please choose the narrower calf size option. If in doubt, please pick up the phone - we are here to help.
  • If you’ve ordered before, we’ll already know your previous size measurements. However, we all change shape during the year so please check your measurements each time you order.

How to measure your calf

I have wide/narrow feet, will your boots fit?
We manufacture our boots with a standard C fitting shoe in calf widths of 30-40cm. In calf widths 40-50cm we manufacture the boots with a slightly wider shoe fitting.
If you are unsure we can advise on styles that might suit your foot.

I have wide/narrow ankles, will your boots fit?
The size of the ankle on many of our boots changes with the size of the leg and the foot. This offers you the kind of fit you would otherwise only find on a bespoke pair of boots. In most cases we can get the right fit for you first time. However, if your experience is that your ankles are particularly large or slim compared to your calves, please contact us with your ankle measurement, before you order, so we can suggest styles that may fit your leg shape better.

How tall are your boots?
Boot height is the distance in a straight line from the bottom of your foot at the heel to the top of our boot. The height of our knee-length boots increases slightly with the shoe size, calf size and style of boot, ranging from 27cm to 51cm in a full length boot. Each product page displays the approx height of the boot displayed. Select a shoe size and a calf width and the boot height will automatically display.

WIDTH FIT SHOES

How do I measure my foot width?

Measuring your foot width carefully and accurately helps us to get the right shoes to you first time.

How to measure the width:

1) If you usually wear socks or tights with your shoes, wear them when you measure your foot width.
2) Take a fabric tape measure and place it on the floor cm side down (N.B. If you don’t have a tape measure you can use a piece of string, cut it or mark it off at the correct length, and then measure the piece of string with a ruler).
3) Put your foot flat and stand firmly on the tape measure.
4) Measure around the circumference of your foot at its widest point. This is usually from the bone just below your big toe, to the bone below your little toe (N.B. The tape measure should be at a slight angle).

5) Take the measurement to the nearest 0.5cm.
6) Foot size can vary, so measure both feet.
7) Once you know your foot width, select your shoe size and choose from one of the foot width options.

Please note our sizing is just a guide. Some fittings may vary due to characteristics of different styles and different customers’ feet. Some customers may need to try a smaller or larger size to determine the best fit. If you would like some advice please email enquiries@duoboots.com or call our customer service staff on 0845 070 5588.

Please quote your continental shoe size, following the chart above, when ordering your shoes.
